We spent 2 wonderful days up in the mountains, walking in the nature, listening to the birds and resting. Meeting with other guests was a lot of fun but it was Jiro and Chai who brought life to this special place. Really loved my stay here! The place is super peaceful and tucked away in the mountains—such a calm and relaxing vibe. The house has that old Japanese charm that makes it feel cozy and special. The host was super nice, accomodating, and helpful too. Perfect spot to unwind and enjoy nature.

这辈子没住过这么好的民宿。是真的，能来到菊池这边住，真的太幸福！爷爷奶奶是如此的热情，房子是如此的温馨，饭菜是如此的美味，床铺是如此的温暖，来到菊池，是我这一趟日本之旅的高光。 来到这边，爷爷奶奶给我们提供美味的住家甜品及早餐，还给我们介绍了很多日式的文化。爷爷奶奶还很擅长用翻译器跨国交流毫无难度！！！ 早上的时候爷爷还会带我逛乡村，看寺庙，真的太～～美好！ 最后走的时候，爷爷送我们到车站，还给我们年轻人许多鼓励的话语。爷爷站在车站向我们挥手道别的时候，我真的忍不住流眼泪。我一定会选择再来一次，并且住的时间长一些！

I’m at a loss for words to fully describe my incredible stay with Ken and Saki-san. From the moment they picked me up from the station—when I couldn’t quite figure out the local bus—they welcomed me with genuine warmth and kindness. They greeted me like family, offering a hot cup of tea upon my arrival and preparing a delicious homemade dinner, even though they didn’t have to. In today’s world, where Airbnb stays often feel more like a mere place to sleep, this experience was something truly special, far exceeding any expectations. Their children were absolutely delightful, and I had so much fun spending time with them. Staying in Koenji, a peaceful farming town, in a traditional Machiya house, made me feel like I was part of their world. Ken and Saki are self-sufficient farmers who grow their own rice and vegetables, and their deep connection with nature was inspiring. Ken and Saki’s hospitality was beyond anything I could imagine, I’m grateful and honored for spending time with them

숙박 전부터 친절하고 배려깊은 메세지를 보내주었습니다. 숙소에 도착하니 고향집에 온 것처럼 따듯하게 맞이해 주셨고, 아이를 손주처럼 예뻐해 주셨습니다. 외출해서 돌아오면 직접 만든 간식과 따듯한 차를 내어주셨고, 저녁식사를 미처 못해서 급하게 부탁드린 우동은 우리 가족에게 ‘인생 우동’이 되었습니다. 가장 감동적이었던 건 조식! 직접 키운 야채로 훌륭한 요리를 해주셨어요! 일본 료칸에서 흔히 먹는 가이세키보다 훨씬 더 맛있었습니다!!! 편식하는 아이를 위해서 좋아하는 음식을 해주셨는데, 아이가 다른 음식들도 맛있다면서 골고루 먹는 모습을 보고 흐뭇했어요. 참! 그리고 호스트님이 추천해 주시는 관광 안내 덕분에 알찬 여행이 되었어요. 일단 말 먹이 주기와 말타기 체험을 가성비 있게 진행했고, 외부 식당 및 온천도 매우 만족스러웠습니다. 오며가며 만난 호스트님의 가족들도 우리를 친절하게 대해 주어서 머무르는 동안 정말 행복했습니다. 기쿠치 여행을 계획하는 분들에게 꼭 이 숙소를 추천할 것이고, 다음에 다시 가게 된다면 저녁 식사도 예약해서 꼭 먹어볼 것입니다. 부디 호스트님과 남편분 모두 건강하셨으면 좋겠습니다. 오래 기억에 남을 추억을 만들어 주셔서 정말 감사합니다🙇‍♀️

It’s a very cosy beautiful home and it’s surrounding. Totally feel relax and breathing in the freshest air. Despite the chilling cold night, me and my wife are overwhelmed by the our host, to show us the moon using his modified telescope. What an experience for us, it’s totally pleasant bonus I would say. That made our night there so memorable. Thanks for the lovely breakfast too and the coffee.

My hosts were very friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend booking the meals for an extra fee. They are delicious, home made and with a variety of local dishes. I enjoyed the discussions with my hosts. The house is at a convenient location to visit Miyazaki, Aoshima and further south.

Ho trascorso una settimana da Aki e Kana ed è stata una delle settimane più belle di sempre. La stanza è magnifica con la vista sulle risaie, si dorme benissimo. Stupenda anche la veranda. Ho alternato lavoro da remoto (wifi velocissimo) con passeggiate sulla spiaggia e tra le risaie. Ci sono anche un po’ di ristoranti nei dintorni. La posizione è magnifica e molto facile da raggiungere con i mezzi. Tutta la famiglia, bambina, ragazze, gatti, é magnifica. Ho molto apprezzato l’equilibrio tra la condivisione con la famiglia e la privacy. C’è spazio per chiacchierare e stare insieme se si ha voglia ma anche godersi il proprio tempo in autonomia. Ho lasciato in questa casa e su quest’isola un pezzo di cuore e non vedo l’ora di tornare ❤️

Such a friendly and homely stay. Hitomi was incredibly helpful and recommended a visit to a local pottery (with the longest climbing kiln) where you can do a pottery experience course with a great English speaking teacher. the breakfast are delicious and healthy and the guest house is like a home from home. I highly recommend. If you arrive by train and take a taxi, I advise writing down the address in japanese as the taxi driver may not use Googlemaps or speak English. Hitomi was really helpful in sorting out the confusion I had with my taxi driver!

四ヶ月ぶりに再訪しました。 オーナーさんからおかえりなさいと言われて嬉しい気持ちになりました。 自分の家のように使ってくださいと、二泊本当に寛いでしまいました。オーナーさん手作りの朝食も美味しいですよ！鹿児島の焼き芋付きです🍠 帰ってきたばかりなのにまた次お邪魔する日をいつにしようか考えている自分がいます。 お世話になりました！

It's my 3rd time returning and for good reason, it's one of the best accommodations for the price I've been to in Japan. You have access to a big comfortable bed, a beautiful upstairs area and your own kitchen. The host is very friendly and there are a lot of convenient shops nearby. Munakata is close to many mountains, shrines and the ocean so if you love nature its worth exploring. The house is really incredible, it's a traditional Japanese style and has lots of great art hanging from the walls. The house has great modern amenities to make your life easy.
