Situated on the crest of the Coromandel ranges on the 309 road. Mahakirau Forest Estate comprises almost 600 ha of native forest. Each site is convenated by QEII National Trust who describe Mahakirau "outstanding for it's ecology and wildlife value with brown kiwi, kaka, Hochsetetter's and Archey's frogs all present". Hideaway by the Sea (Dogs welcome)

You owe yourself a break by the sea. Chill out on Whiritoa's uncrowded beach only 80 meters away. No sound or sight of traffic here and low light pollution in the village provides front seat tickets to galaxy granduer. Whangamata is only 12kms drive if you would like to eat out. Accommodation is downstairs with your personal entrance. Double bedroom with queen bed, lounge/kitchenette, laundry/bathroom. Comfortable and clean.
