... and Huffington Post listed us as one of the nine "Prettiest Homes in America" alongside Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater and the Hearst Castle.
The O2Haus is certified as one of the most energy efficient homes in the world. As a passive house, it is heated primarily by the sun and day-to-day activity. What little energy we use is offset by rooftop solar panels, enabling the home to be net-zero energy. The home has been featured in a variety of publications, as a film set, and on tours.
Features include reclaimed shipping crate hardwood floors, innovative indirect lighting, custom fixtures throughout, and twist-and-turn triple-pane windows. A heat-recovery ventilation system delivers fresh, filtered air to each room in the home 24/7/365 (great for those with allergies). The house boasts an extremely comfortable climate free of drafts and hot/cold spots.
Amenities include a sunset balcony, lofted dining & living room, modern kitchen with induction stove, heated towel racks, charcoal BBQ, broadband wifi, and garage parking for bicycles. The paver driveway doubles as a patio surrounded by drought-resistant native foliage watered via a rain chain.

It's a housemate situation -- we have shared common areas, bathrooms, and kitchen. I work in renewable energy and photography. My partner Amanda (who co-manages this listing) directs a nonprofit legal clinic. We’re longtime Portlanders, and happy to provide tips and local insight.
We have two wonderful housemates whose bedroom is adjacent to the guest bedroom, and who spend many weekends at the coast. We're all professionals with day jobs and busy lifestyles, but enjoy visiting with guests on the rare occasion that schedules and availability align. We entertain other wonderful people from time to time, in which cases we're cognizant of noise, tapering off by ~10pm. Due to varying schedules, we've had good luck with facilities being available whenever each of us hopes to use them.

The custom front door is airtight, secure, and uses a specialized locking mechanism.
As with most minimalist homes, the hard surfaces lead to sound traveling well. Extra-light sleepers fear not - we are respectful about noise and we provide earplugs and a white noise machine.
We'd love for you to experience passive house living as our guests.
