The Bernard Schwartz House known as Still Bend is Frank Lloyd Wright's built version of his Life Magazine "Dream House" design from 1938. The house is on the East Twin River about a mile from Lake Michigan. Frank Lloyd Wright wrote in Life Magazine about the plan, “ life is unlike any other in the world and I think this plan recognizes it for pretty much what it is — a little private club — with special privacies, ultra conveniences and style all"

El lugar

The house was a great insight to F.L. Wrights design philosophy. We toured Talesin East first and then went to the house for 3 nights. You have to appreciate how unique Wrights vision was for residential housing because it still has a modern feel but was built almost 80 years ago. He was definitely a visionary and we loved having plenty of time to stay there and observe all the great details.

This property is unique and a good opportunity to stay in a historic home. The site is beautiful and there are many period decorations/housewares that remind you what was available at the time. Our friends agreed that it was fun and worth staying there. The weather was ideal so we spent most of our free time on the patio. Indoors, the lighting is quite dim, unlike the photos that were on the website. Bring extra lights if you want to read in the public rooms. At the time we visited there was a strong and persistent odor, sort of like a musty leather, so we kept the doors and windows open and the fans on. Luckily there were no bugs or the lack of screens on most of the windows would have been a problem.

Respuesta de Michael:
I am sorry about the your experience of an odor, not sure what may have been causing it, no odor now. As far as lighting goes, this is not a contemporary house that is flooded with bright light. This is is a historic home that is Frank Lloyd Wright's Life Magazine Dream House. Wright was a master at using light and is lit at night like a fine restaurant. There are three reading lights in the main living room which are available to use..

Staying in a Frank Lloyd Wright house was a unique experience. The house was gorgeous and the furnishings and decor really enhanced the experience. We especially enjoyed all of the old Life magazines. On the other hand, it is a historic house and FLW is well known for putting form over function, so the place had its quirks and inconveniences. We stayed for 4 nights and I feel like 3-4 nights is probably enough to get the feel of it. Michael was an excellent host and everything went very smoothly. I would recommend this rental to all architecture buffs.

It's Frank Lloyd Wright, people! The house was brilliant and VERY interesting to explore. Every room is a photo op. Same with the backyard by the river (wish we brought our canoe). The ceilings are a little low for anyone 6'2" and up, but it was still totally worth the rare experience of living in a FLW house for a few days. What a wonderful honeymoon it was!
