Our beautiful, minimalist Tiny House is a comfortable home base for tourists and business travelers. We look forward to hosting you in the heart of East Austin, just 1.5 miles from the convention center, and 10 minutes from the airport.
The Kanga Tiny House comfortably sleeps two people, sharing a queen bed. If you are traveling with a third person, or simply need extra sleeping space, we have a twin-sized air mattress available for you to borrow, or a pac'n'play for a little one. (Please ask for this in your reservation request if you need it). Floor space is limited, so we may rearrange furniture to comfortably accommodate your group.
Check-in time is 3pm or later. Access is through a keyless lock for which you'll be provided a code prior to approval, so late night check-ins are not a problem. Check-out time is 12pm.
The Kanga Tiny House is roughly 200 square feet, and features:
- AT&T GigaPower Internet (through Airport Extreme)
- We do not have a TV but you can certainly stream your favorite shows with your Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, iTunes, etc. account.
- USB Charger for your devices
- Wireless Charging Pad from Ikea (your device must be wireless enabled)
We keep the place well stocked with all of the basics, as well as extra towels and blankets if needed.
- 15 minutes (6.6 miles) from Austin Bergstrom International Airport,
- 5 minutes (1.5 miles) from the Austin Convention Center,
- Approx. $6 or $7 Uber/Lyft ride from downtown,
- 1.7 miles to Austin's famous Rainey Street bar and restaurant district. We recommend taking Uber/Lyft unless you feel like a 30 minute walk,
- 3 blocks away from the Lady Bird Lake trailhead on Pleasant Valley, for walking/biking/running (by Longhorn Dam).
If you enjoy exploring on foot, or alternative transit options like bikes and buses, this is a good spot for you. You'll be just one block away from Cesar Chavez St, a major thoroughfare that goes into downtown, where there's an eclectic mix of dining, drinking, retail, services, gas stations, and single family homes. We're only a few short blocks from the Lady Bird Lake trail and head over Longhorn Dam, which pops you out onto a hiking, biking, and running loop that is several miles long. The boardwalk over the lake provides great views of downtown.
There are plenty of things in walking distance, and we recommend looking at our Guidebook for more details. Our favorites for food & groceries:
- JuiceLand on E Cesar Chavez, a smoothie & juice spot, approx. 3 minutes away
- Tacos Guerrero on Cesar Chavez & Pleasant Valley, the best breakfast tacos in town for only $2 a piece
- J Mueller BBQ at E 6th & Pedernales, approx. 8 minutes away
- HEB on E 7th, a grocery store, approx. 10 minutes away
- Counter Culture on E Cesar Chavez, a vegan restaurant, 2 blocks away
- Blue Owl Brewing, a sour-mashed beer micro brewery, 1 block away
- Juniper, a classy Italian restaurant with great wine and outdoor seating, 1 block away
- Hi Hat on E 6th, a gastropub, approx. 15 minutes away
- Counter Cafe on E 6th, a breakfast & lunch diner, approx. 15 minutes away
- Gourmands, a gastropub with gourmet sandwiches, approx. 15-20 minutes away
- Saigon Le Vendeur on E 7th, a delicious Vietnamese food truck, approx. 15 minutes away
- Launderette on Holly St at St Martinez Jr St has one of the best burgers in town plus a tasty rotating dessert menu.
... and many more wonderful options. If you prefer to drive to any of these you'll get there in less than 5 minutes.
Dogs are permitted on a case-by-case basis for an additional per visit fee of $25, and approval must be obtained ahead of a booking being made. The fee will be added to the booking through a booking alteration/special offer. Guests must keep their dogs supervised at all times when in the yard, leashed when outside the yard, and must pick up after them.
We are avid travelers ourselves, and love staying with AirBnB hosts any chance we get. We want to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, and are completely open to frank feedback on how to improve your time in the Kanga Tiny House.
It should be noted that we are currently working on some landscaping projects, as a result of completing the paved walkway for guest access to the Kanga (wrapped up January 2016). Please excuse the "under construction" view of the back yard.
Disponible para huéspedes
The Kanga Tiny House has a kitchenette - which includes a stove top, microwave, full fridge (with freezer), sink, and all the basic utensils you'd need for a quick, simple meal. No one should start their day without caffeine - so you'll find a selection of tea, coffee, and a French press to get you powered up, along with some breakfast snacks.
There is a small dining/working table (which extends to comfortably seat two people if needed) , a wooden chair and a stool. The leather chair pictured in the photos is no longer available, but if you need additional seating let us know and we can bring another chair out.
If the weather is nice you can make use of the deck, where we provide two chairs and a small side table. Bug spray and sun screen is available in the closet.
The bathroom is fully decked out with clean towels, some basic toiletries, lotion, and shampoo & body wash. If you need more towels we keep spares in the closet, along with a hair dryer, iron, and lint roller.
If you've forgotten something crucial you can either stroll up to the local grocery store (HEB on E 7th) or check in with us to see if we have a spare item for you. For longer stays we are happy to provide clean linens on a regular basis, or as needed.
For families traveling with children we have a litany of things we can lend our guests: pac n play (with sheets, blankets, pillows as desired), high chair, outlet covers, stroller, children's eating utensils, books, toys, in addition to which guests with children can make use of the side patio and sandbox as desired. We have several trusted babysitters that frequently look after our own children and which we would recommend without hesitation.
Atención a los huéspedes
We live in the main house on the property, so we are close by if you need anything. You may see us around doing yard work, or playing fetch with our dog (a lab mix) who has a tendency to bark loudly when greeting guests, and then run away and hide. We respect your privacy, so unless you get in touch we'll let you have peace and quiet.
Otros aspectos destacables
For security purposes, we do ask that all of our guests have a complete Airbnb profile before we accept booking requests. Basic contact information (phone number & email address) must be verified, and your Offline ID (e.g. driver's license) should be linked to your account.
We do also Airbnb a room in our main house, on the same property, so you may see other guests coming and going, although that is through a completely separate entry.
Our property is licensed with the City of Austin as a short term rental and the 15% hotel tax (6% state, 9% city) is already included in our listing price. License Number: OL (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN).
Guests must keep the side gate, which they enter the property through, firmly latched at all times. This is a security concern, given that we have small children and dogs who are often out in the yard.
The Kanga Tiny House is strictly non-smoking, although you can smoke on the deck, provided you keep the doors and windows closed while doing so, and dispose of your cigarette butts. Please let us know if you are a smoker, so we can leave a jar for you to discard your cigarettes in, since discarding them in the inside trash causes a smell.
We also ask that you maintain the quiet of the neighborhood, since we are in close quarters. Pets are allowed on a case-by-case basis for an additional fee of $25 per pet, and must be disclosed during booking. If you Instant Book, the $25 pet fee will be added using a booking alteration that you will need to accept.
We recycle and compost, and welcome you to do the same while staying with us.
Due to humidity buildup in the bathroom we ask guests to please run the vent fan conscientiously prior to, during, and after taking a shower.
Very important - and due to past issues - we must highlight that absolutely NOTHING besides toilet paper can be flushed down the toilet. Any other objects (including moist towelettes) will clog up the sewage, thus disabling the sewage pump and setting off an alarm (no joke), and the toilet will be unusable until a repair person has come out to fix the issue. Please respect this. We'll have a note in the unit to remind you. We provide a trash can in the bathroom and kitchen, and there are spare trash bags under both sinks should you need them.
