Another prehistoric site. This site has over 200 upstanding stones, none taller than 1m. They are arranged in a fan shaped patter, believed to be from Bronze Age times, as this ties in with similar sites in Brittany. There are no other similar stone arrangements in the UK. Some researchers believe they are a means of mapping Lunar cycles, why don't you visit and see what you think.

From our gate turn left then right to the river, cross the foot bridge and turn left through the industrial estate. At the end of the estate you will find a gate leading you on a walk past the ruins of Thurso castle and along the sea. Great for sunset and watching surfers. Famous for surfing. Wear good sturdy footwear.

From our front gate turn left and immediately right at the corner. Once you reach the river at the end of the block take another left to follow the river along which will eventually loop you left along the beach. The promenade is a lovely walk. At the end of the beach promenade, you can climb the staircase, which leads you onto the Victoria cliff walk. You will see fine views of Dunnet Head (The UK’s most northerly point) and the Orkney Islands, especially on a clear day.

One of our favourite walks to recommend on route to Durness. Located in Tongue, this walk is about 20min and offers spectacular views. Perfect for stretching your legs on a long drive. Footpath access to the right of the Ben Loyal Hotel. Follow the path up to a lookout tower and the ruins of Varrich Castle.

Great 5-10min stop just on the A9. There is a sign for parking and the Broch is across on the other side of the A9. A little gem many just drive past. Highly recommended.

An often overlooked and off the beaten track road great for a full day of exploring through the hills and valleys. Ancient stone archaeology circles and brochs are dotted along the route from Helmsdale to Forsinard. Ending with the Forsinard Flows and Lookout tower. Then you rejoin the A836 and turn east towards Thurso. Be prepared for this route to take longer as roads are windy and often narrow, but for experiencing a Scottish adventure drive, it's fantastic.
