Clearwater Beach is about 30 minutes away (on a good day). During high traffic, it can be 45 minutes. One of our highest-rated, most-visited beaches. It's always busy here. If you're into the "people scene", this is the beach. Pier 60 has a nightly sunset festival. Parking can be expensive if you park right at the beach. Download the "INRIX ParkMe" App to get cheaper suggestions on parking spots.

Another popular beach destination for the tourists. Busy, but not as busy as Clearwater Beach. There's more to do here (in terms of restaurants, bars, and entertainment, in my opinion) than Clearwater Beach. It's about a 25 minute drive from us.

Indian Rocks Beach is one of the closest beaches to us. It's about 15 minutes. The better parking lot is Tiki Gardens. (Apparently, Tiki Gardens used to be a theme park.) This is a quieter beach. The sand isn't as powdery as Clearwater Beach, but it's still quite nice. Parking is $2.50 per hour (as of our last visit).

The St Pete Pier is one of the newest attractions in St Petersburg. They have added a little beach. We've not been there, but it looks fun. It's not a big beach, and parking at St Pete Pier can be a challenge at times. There's also the draw of being downtown, on-site restaurants and bars, and a few other unique features. It's about a 20 to 25 minute drive from us.

A bit of a unique beach experience (for Pinellas). It reminds me of a drive to the Keys. You can park your car on the sand, amongst the mangroves. It's a bit of a "redneck beach", very roadside, dogs running around, grills out, people fishing, a decent launch site for kayaks. It's about a 25 minute drive from us.

This beach may be a bit tough to find if you only type in "Johns Pass". This is on the west side of Gulf Blvd, just north of the bridge. There's a parking lot there. If you're parked in the Johns Pass lot (by Bubba Gump), cross under the bridge to get to the beach. There's a nice access to the beach, fishing, and it's in close proximity to Johns Pass, a very touristy destination with shopping, restaurants, bars, ice cream, a boardwalk, etc. You can almost always see dolphins from the boardwalk. It's about 20 minutes from us.

Madeira Beach is a middle-of-the-road beach, in terms of people traffic. Not as busy as Clearwater Beach, but busier than Indian Rocks Beach. If you park at Archibald Park, there's a snack bar with souvenir shop, restrooms, shower, etc. About 15 minutes from our house.

A large beach area, volleyball nets, bathrooms, a large inflatable slide (not free). Sloppy Joe's is easy to access for food or drinks. On Sunday nights there's a drum circle behind Sloppy Joe's (over at sunset). About a 25 minute drive from us.

On the southern tip of Treasure Island. We've found parking to be difficult and/or expensive in the evenings since there are a few beachfront restaurants here, and sometimes live music. About a 25 minute drive from us.

Here's one you probably won't be able to visit without help (not us... we don't have a boat). This is a newly formed island (at the moment) off the north tip of Fort DeSoto. Currently, the transportation of choice is via boat. On the weekend, dozens, maybe 100 boats will park off-shore and gather on the island. We've been here a few times. It's fun and unique. About a 60 minute boat ride.

This beach has been consistently ranked as one of the best beaches in the USA (alongside Clearwater Beach). It's not as busy as Clearwater Beach, and there's a $5 entrance fee, (plus tolls) to Fort DeSoto. It's about 45 to 50 minutes to get here from our house.

This is an "urban-style" beach, set in close proximity to downtown St Pete. The parking is free. There's a spot to hang hammocks in the trees (you provide) should you wish. The Gizella Kopsick Palm Arboretum is right there to walk among the many palms.
