Everyone’s favourite mountain (it does make it crowded and I usually wouldn’t recommend a crowded place but hey this is Catbells!)... parking can be terrible as the base of the hill so why not catch the ferry over from Keswick and do the mountain via a boat 😉)... you can also walk back via the Swinside Inn (best beer garden around)

It’s the best Chinese restaurant in town. If there's a wait for take ways (there always is) or they aren't answering the phone (which they often don't). Walk down and there's often tables to eat in without a wait. Its worth it!

Mountain advice
I have only included very local mountains in my guide. There are another 214 ‘wainwrights’ to choose from (wainwrights are selected hills by the late Alfred Wainwright - selected for their beauty). Do a little research and if you wish to escape the crowds then simply select a wainwright that is not one of the major peaks and you will find them mainly to yourself 😉. Please be aware these are mountains and you need to be properly equipped for them. We get the wettest weather in England (this what fills the lakes!). Be warned and be prepared!

Car parking / buses
The Lake District is increasingly busy with cars. Car parks at popular places can get full! Parking fines are becoming more common! If you are going somewhere popular then get their early to ensure a parking place. There are buses to many of the local places (even over honistor pass - the honistor rambler) and don’t forget the local launch / ferry service which is a brilliant way to travel around the lake.
