Food scene

We would recommend making reservations for Friar Tucks. It is an upper-end restaurant (though you don't need to dress up) and has a great selection of steaks, seafood, chicken, etc.

About 5 miles out of Grass Valley on Highway 20, Penn Valley is small town worthy to explore. Western Gateway park is an expansive area with picnic areas and an easy walking trail. Come enjoy some quiet time in Penn Valley and check out the shops and restaurants.

With the many hiking trails surrounding Auburn, there's never a lack of things to explore. Enjoy the beautiful views of the Sierra Nevada mountains or sip coffee at a quaint shop in town.

The Saturday Farmer's Markets are a Must!

There are two in the area...both on Saturday. One is in the new Target shopping center parking lot. Take Hwy 49 North to McKnight. Turn left. The new Target is on the left. The other farmer's market is in Nevada City. Take Hwy 49 North to Broad Street. Turn left. The market is to your right at the first intersection. Park along Broad (if you're so lucky!).

Wineries! Breweries!

The Placer Wine Trail in Auburn is a must-see for wine lovers and Auburn and Nevada City are overflowing with local breweries. Our little house is in the perfect location to explore both. Our favorite local vineyard is Naggiar and our favorite tasting room is Luchessi in Grass Valley on Mill Street.
