Enjoying nature

Very family friendly forest with walks, playgrounds, family trails and bike hire. Go Ape is here so you could swing through the forest if you prefer, and there is also a cafe overlooking the pond area.

Sightseeing

Aswell as visiting Chawton house and church, you may also take a walk from Chawton to Farringdon past the church taking in the sights that Jane Austen would herself have enjoyed. Opposite her house in the centre of the village is a wonderful tea room which is a must!

Beautiful gardens and an interesting museum. Also the cakes in the cafe are incredible! If you have time after the museum, there is a lovely walk up the hanger (begins behind the Selborne Arms pub)...it's steep but the views are amazing.

4 minutes walk from the house, and a must for visitors to Alton, is the steam railway. Watercress Line takes you through Ropley to Alresford which is a charming village with wonderful eateries and a lovely river walk starting at the bottom of the high street.

Food scene

Cosy pub especially in winter, but the surprise at the back is their new Pizza restaurant in the renovated barn which overlooks the garden and terrace. Most delicious pizzas!
