Sightseeing

Mt Albert’s Maori name is Owairaka, or the place of Wairaka. During the Waiohua era from 1700 to 1750, it was part of the wider network of hill pa and villages as the most westerly hill pa on the isthmus. Great walks and views, carpark on Summit Drive. Watch the sunset over the narrowest part of New Zealand - just 1 mile across from Waitemata Harbour to Manukau Harbour - part of the first trading routes for humans in NZ.
