I was visiting my parents the other day and we went for a lovely walk in Ujlipotvaros and popped into this incredible confectionary & ice cream shop. My Dad has diabetes but he could quench his thirst, so to say, with their wide range of diabetic friendly ice creams. Finished off with a gorgeous espresso we were totally refreshed after our our walk.

The self-proclaimed dessert bar Édesmindegy is found a short walk from the Danube bank, on Pozsonyi út. Reading the list of delicious but off-the-wall desserts, you wouldn’t expect all the familiar, homely flavours you’ll get once you’ve ordered. Everything here smells and tastes as if you’ve just took them out of the oven at home.

The huge windows of the café and restaurant look on the Danube-bank and Szent István Park, and they also have a terrace which is the ideal place for eating an ice cream sundae during the summer. They offer quality food, whether we order á la carte or choose from the chef’s offers, yet the emphasis is on the confectionery selection which is presented in a giant cooling counter.

The favorite hangout of freelancers, Typo Bar & Showroom – and breakfast place – is found on Budapest’s ever-busy Blaha Lujza Square. During the day visitors can sip on tasty drinks amid a cozy atmosphere, while in the evenings often DJs spin discs, while lemonades and beers sell for a friendly price. The bar is also complete with a vintage boutique holding cool fashion items on the gallery.

At the beginning of District XIII’s Pozsonyi Street, we can now start the day as early as 7am with a succulent breakfast and a cup of tasty coffee. Bubó Café’s owners – a former lawyer and an IT expert – waited six years for the perfect locale to launch their lovely eatery, where anyone can pop in, from local residents to Margaret Island joggers to mums with with baby carriages to freelancers with laptops.

Monumental buildings encircle this sprawling sanctuary in the heart of Budapest, where ample green space is provided for city dwellers to enjoy sedate moments amid the urban buzz. Anyone who hangs out here can dine and drink in the shadow of century-old edifices, like the abandoned Stock Exchange Palace or the barricaded building that houses the United States Embassy

Known as the green heart of Budapest, the city’s sprawling Margaret Island parkland is nestled between two of Budapest’s spans, the Margaret Bridge and Árpád Bridge. This popular oasis is bustling with life all year round, but especially during the summer months, when numerous attractions entice visitors to head out here, including a couple of plunge zones, like the Alfréd Hajós National Swimming Complex and the Palatinus Bath, a lengthy running track for joggers, a small petting zoo, a vibrant musical fountain, and a blooming Japanese Garden.

One of the first public parks of the world, Városliget (also referred to as City Park) was the central venue of the millennial celebrations of 1896. Contrary to beliefs, it is not the largest park in Budapest (the title goes to Népliget), but it is certainly the most lovable one, because it is family-, sports-, and pet friendly. Now there is also a bird-watching educational path and garden found here, where we can occasionally even spot the little residents of Városliget near their nests and feeders. The renaissance theater-like building of Széchenyi Bath is the perfect destination if we want to spend the day in thermal water, while the Zoo and the Circus both await children

There are three major sections of the Budapest History Museum. The collections – Roman Antiquities and archaelogy (Aquincum Museum), Medieval (Castle Museum) and Modern Age, and local history and fine art (Kiscelli Museum) were created almost simultaneously, but developed independent of each other. The centre of the Budapest History Museum is found in Building E of the Buda Castle, also known as the Castle Museum (Vármúzeum). Here find information on Budapest in the Modern Age (under construction), Gothic sculptures from the Royal Palace of Buda, the history of Budapest from the prehistoric age and the medieval Royal Palace of the Buda castle.

The Ludwig Museum is in the Palace of Arts displays artwork by modern and contemporary artists. The permanent collection contains valuable pieces of American pop art (including Andy Warhol, Claes Oldenburg and Robert Rauschenberg). There’s also a strong focus on Eastern and Central European art and presents the Hungarian art of the 60s to recent days in an international context. The temporary exhibitions showcase leading artists from the international scene as well as the best-known Hungarian masters, all with the help of 21st century technology. The building itself is worth exploring – it can be considered a contemporary work of art in itself!

Designed by architect Ignác Alpár in 1896 as part of Hungary’s millennial celebrations (commemorating one thousand years since the medieval Magyars first settled on the plains of Pannonia), Vajdahunyad Castle was originally intended to be a temporary exhibition, and was constructed out of wood and cardboard. However, the attraction proved such a hit with locals and visitors alike that a more permanent structure was built in 1904.
