Food Scene

Sugo is my absolute favourite restaurant in Altrincham serving really authentic Tuscan Italian food. The restaurant is compact, with refectory-style tables, so be prepared to sit next to other restaurant goers - we love it for the informality. Foodies will love its authenticity and 'as you find us' ambience. We love it and the menu changes every month which keeps us coming back for more! Because it is small, it gets booked up quickly, but they tend to keep a couple of spaces free for walk-ins - avoid disappointment by booking.

Alty Market House has won the Observer Food awards for best market, and for good reason - the Market Hall manages to capture an almost wartime sense of community spirit in its design. Suiting a wide variety of tastes, needs and moods, its a 'free-for-all' on securing a spot on one of the refectory style tables, (but you always find a spot eventually). Food is the main focus, however real ale aficionados will be very happy with the BlackJack Brewery and Reserve Wines offer a very decent selection of wines and spirits.

A very reliable Thai restaurant, serving a good selection of Thai favourites. Lovely staff too.

Recently opened, a very spacious and centrally located French restaurant with a budget-conscious prix fixe menu that has plenty of options. Service is very friendly and this is shaping up to be a good dependable option if you need somewhere to eat at short notice!

Very tasty authentic Lebanese / Syrian restaurant. If you are looking for a change from Italian, Chinese, Thai, Indian etc. for a meal out, Yara delivers (literally, they are also available on Deliveroo at our house!)

Porta is relatively new to Altrincham. Situated very conveniently right outside the Market House steps, it offers a small but perfectly formed tapas menu. What Sugo is for Italian dining in Altrincham, Porta is for Spanish tapas. The slow braised ox cheeks, which just melt in the mouth, are a must-try. You can't reserve a table, just walk in and sit yourself down. There is seating upstairs as well as downstairs - the emphasis is on 'snug'. Some outside seating is also available for the brave few who can't wait until summer.

Drinks & Nightlife

One of two Belgian Bars in Altrincham, Mort Subite has more character, in my opinion. Access from a side entrance and down a narrow staircase, it doesn't immediately shout welcome. However, once your eyes adjust to the low lighting and decor, this bar has fantastic charm as some kind of quirky hybrid of an old-fashioned European bar combined with a Prohibition Era speakeasy. Beers come in an extensive menu, delivered by friendly waiting staff. Grab a table in one of the many nooks and crannies and try something new, or rather, old.
