Things to see and do in the area

The cottage is 10 minutes drive from the town of Carrick-on-Suir. The best local convenience store is Abbey Stores- on the left as you come into the town. The Village of Kilsheelan is about 5 minutes drive towards Clonmel, and has a post office and basic shop, as well as 2 pubs. Clonmel is 15 minutes drive, Kilkenny 40 minutes and Waterford/ Dungarvan 35 minutes. Walking You are literally minutes away from walks in the Comeraghs and along the Suir. There is a style directly across form the gate that will take you down to the river. This does cross a private farm, so please be respectful of this and any livestock. It is a 30 minute drive to the scenic waterfall at Mahon Falls: https://www.discoverireland.ie/Activities-Adventure/scenic-area-mahon-falls/44608 It is a 20 minute drive to the steep but stunning walk at Coumshingaun Corrie lake http://www.waterfordwebdesign.ie/how-to-get-to-coumshingaun-directions-and-things-to-look-out-for The mountain you see from the gate is Slievenamon, and it can be walked starting from Kilcash or on the other side from Killusty. Fishing There is lots of local trout and salmon fishing. You will need to get a permit from Clonmel and District Angling Club to fish on the Suir. https://www.facebook.com/anglingclonmel/ There are also many other local clubs and fisheries. Cycling This part of Waterford/ Tipperary is famous for its cycling. Tour de France winner Sean Kelly is from Carrick-on Suir. You are only a 30min drive from stunning and hugely popular Waterford Greenway, which boasts 46km of off road cycling. http://www.visitwaterfordgreenway.com/ Beaches You are no distance from all that Co Waterford’s famous Copper Coast has to offer, including numerous beaches and the Geopark Visitor’s Centre. https://coppercoastgeopark.com/copper-coast-geopark-visitor-centre/ Your nearest beach is Stradbally cove, 40 mins away and very near the Waterford Greenway route. More The retreat and gardens of Glencomeragh house, as Rossminion monastery, is just 1 minute away. https://www.waterfordlismore.ie/glencomeragh-house-of-prayer/ The farm directly opposite the cottage is part of the world famous Coolmore Stud, breeder of champion race horses. The main farm is a 30 minute drive to Fethard, Co. Tipperary, and tours can sometimes be arranged by appointment. www.coolmore.com Dove Hill Irish design centre offers a chance to shop and browse Irish design in clothing, textiles, crystal and tableware, as well as a bite to eat in the café. (A good rainy day option!) It is situated directly across the river form the cottage, but you will have to travel via either Carrick of Kilsheelan to use a bridge to get you there. www.dovehill.ie Eating out Both Kilkenny and Dungarvan are well known for superb restaurants and gastro pubs. Clonmel and Carrick on Suir are not as well known for good food, but do have decent basic cafes and pizzerias etc. McCarthys bar in Fethard is worth as visit for both food and as a traditional pub. Dove Hill Irish design centre (mentioned above) is directly across the river and has a day time café.

Since Paul and Máire Flynn opened The Tannery in 1997, it has become one of the most original and welcoming experiences in Irish food. What makes it special? There is Paul’s cooking, of course – his fresh Waterford produce, ever-changing menus and mouth-watering focus on flavour. There are cosy chats in the wine bar, warm and welcoming service from expert staff, a bright and buzzy atmosphere at the tables. There is our unique location in the seaside town of Dungarvan, a stone’s throw from the Copper Coast and Comeragh Mountains. But most of all, there is the Tannery’s knack for serving up that most important of ingredients: a great time.
