Neighborhoods

Ballincollig is a large town outside of Cork City that has a lot of history. My favorite amenity is the Gunpowder Mills or the Regional Park. It is a beautiful park suitable for walkers, cyclists or families. There are fantastic forest paths along the river and you can walk the full length of Ballincollig through the park. It also has a playground, Basketball courts, a Skate Park and a coffee van that is there from Wednesday to Sunday in the Iniscarra Bridge Car Park. The town itself has lots of coffee shops, restaurants and pubs. A cinema and plenty of Supermarkets. It also has a 24/7 Bus service which will have you in Cork city in about 20 minutes.

The most southerly tip of Ireland. The lighthouse museum is well worth a visit with spectacular views. Barleycove Beach is one of my favorites. Crookhaven has a huge sailing community and is lovely to sit on the pier and enjoy a pint on a fine day. Try Sully's for a morning coffee with scones and jam and cream. Pure indulgence.

Sightseeing

This is well worth a visit and is only 20 minutes away by car. The Blarney Woolen mills is well worth a visit as well as the castle. They sell a lot of traditional Irish products. There is a nice coffee shop and restaurant. They don't allow dogs in blarney castle and gardens :(

This is about a 45 minute drive, it is highly recommended. Be sure to go at least as far as the little beach nestled between the cliffs. If you are bringing kids a few buckets and shovels and they could spend the day there.

About a 45 minute spin. There is a beautiful beach here that you could certainly spend the day on. There are usually coffee vans along the road to the beach when the weather is good or you could grab a bite and a drink in the hotel. There is also a surf-school for adults and kids. Clonakilty is a lovely little town to eat in on the way home, I would recommend "Richies" or "An Sugàn" or "Poachers" in Bandon is a real treat.

I would highly recommend visiting Cork City and doing the hop on hop off bus tour - You can buy tickets here and there are numerous sites to visit. https://www.corkcitytours.com/tours/hop-on-hop-off-tickets/

Spectacular views and scenery. About an hours drive but well worth it. You can hire bikes and cycle all around the national park or you can just walk too. Muckross house is well worth a visit and be sure to go as far as Torc waterfall. There is loads to do in Killarney. The Mills Inn on the way home is a great spot for some typical Irish pub cuisine.

Food scene

A real artsy town with plenty of great food. Garretstown beach is a must. Stop in to the Dock for a pint of Guinness. Man Fridays restaurant is lovely for an occasion. Has a lot of great seafood.
