Typical and tasty Hungarian dishes, within walking distance. Dishes You should look for:
Starter: mixed plate with Hungarian sausages and cheese or Hortobágy stuffed pancakes (Hortobágyi palacsinta).
Soup: Gulash-soup (Gulyás) or Fish soup
Main dishes: Lecsó (pronounced letscho), Pork or beef stew (Pörkölt) with noodles and a tasty cucumber salad, Stuffed cabbages (Töltött káposzta; put some sour cream on top, priceless) or stuffed peppers (Töltött paprika), Chicken Paprikas (Csirkepaprikás), Pasta with cottage cheese, sour cream and fried bacon (Túrós csusza).
For dessert, go for a somlói galuska (Sponge-cake topped with a tasty chocolate-rum sauce and raisins + whipped cream).
Drinks: try any kind of Palinka before the meals (quite strong spirit made from any kind of fruit that Hungarians can lay their hands on). My personal favorites are plum and grape.
For the main dishes, try any of the dry red or white wines (My personal pick would be the Frittmann winery if its white, Bock, if going for red)
For the dessert, make sure to try the famous Tokaji Aszu, a really sweet white wine, made only in Hungary.
