Food scene

We do not make recommendations on where to eat in Sedona as it is pricey and people's tastes are so varied. We recommend checking out ratings and stars provided in common rating apps.
This restaurant in the Village of Oak Creek is one of the few we can recommend as it's never been as overly priced as other places and has decent food. But beware, it is always busy.

If you are staying at the Arroyo house or studio in West Sedona, this trail is walking distance away. Turn right from the units on Arroyo, then right on El Camino and walk until the end. There WILL BE a private gate, but you'll notice a gate on the side that allows you to walk through. Go through and STAY LEFT and follow the paved road down... you'll get to a maintenance area that just before has a gate on the left that doesn't look like much and leads you out to the trails through the area. This is open access. It will feel weird as that private residence's gate is at the start, but it is ok, just stay left and on the trails!!! =) We went here with the dogs all the time when we lived there. Please be respectful so this stays open to the neighborhood.

Just north of Camp Verde. This is the only casino in the Verde Valley. It is on the Apache reservation and has a variety of restaurant options as well as a buffet.
This is the next nearest that I know of and that someone we know goes to a lot and wins regularly. Don't know much more, but while it says it's in Flagstaff, it's actually another 30 minutes east on Hwy 40. So if you're going to Meteor Crater or Petrified Forest, it might be an option for you.

Roundabouts

One of the seemingly most confusing things to visitors are our roundabouts. Huh, what's that? It's a circle instead of a stop sign or stop light. First, it is a yield, not a stop. As you approach, take a look to your right and judge if it's safe or not. If it looks like the person is going to turn toward you, then slow and possibly stop, otherwise proceed through as you would a yield.

"Expect delays"

Sedona gets super busy on weekends, holidays and spring break. Yeah, Google may say 10 minutes but that's likely not the case. Give yourself extra time. There is only a 2-lane road without ability to pass, so sit back and relax, you're just not going to get there any faster! (Trust me, we locals wish it were 2 lanes the whole way! But that said, even 2 lane West Sedona gets slow.)

The Village of Oak Creek vs West Sedona vs Uptown Sedona

HUH?! I thought it was Sedona! Yes, it's all a Sedona address, but you'll commonly hear all three to provide a better indication of in which part of it all something is located. See, two highways make up our main roads! Think of a "Y", where the leg is AZ-179 that comes from I-17, through the Village of Oak Creek, along the 1-lane Red Rock Parkway to a roundabout with a metal sculpture, where it veers left across the bridge and up a little hill to meet AZ-89A. AZ-89A is the top of the "Y", where right is Uptown Sedona and left is West Sedona.

You need a car!

Please know that Sedona is rural and doesn't have great transportation options. DO NOT assume you can easily get an Uber or Lyft, as they are not big here yet. The only public transportation is the Verde Valley Shuttle. You can get more information online or reference the laminate information card in the unit.
