A great place, not far from Tunis. Transport : Bus from Bab Alioua Station. Less than 10 dt/ 1 hour/ 'Town in the northern half of Tunisia. lt needs a plan an a whole day to go and come back ... G oogle about it or read the The Jugurthine War (112–106 BC) of Salluste. lt's about an armed conflict between the Roman Republic and king Jugurtha of Numidia, a kingdom on the north African coast approximating to modern Algeria. Jugurtha was the nephew and adopted son of Micipsa, King of Numidia, whom he succeeded on the throne, overcoming his rivals through assassination, war, and bribery. Around 112 to 105 B.C., King Jugurtha of Numidia used the mesa to hold off the Roman legions in his long war with them. The highest cliffs of the mesa still show signs of the steps his soldiers chiseled into the sheer rock to reach the top. In the 18th century, the fortress was reconstructed by a local leader Senan, a rebel whose long resistance to the troops of the Bey of Tunis gave the town and area its name. Wiki.
