Sightseeing

St Davids is a beautiful place to visit and you can spend a good day out here. The Cathedral is iconic and makes St Davids the smallest city in the UK, possibly the universe. Mooch round the shops (Basil and Dune for lifestyle , Unsung Hero for surf and skate and Solva Mill store are all great independents) Grab a coffee and cake at The Really wild emporium or ice cream at Gianni's. Grain does great pizzas in the TYF courtyard and the farmers arms is a local as you get for a pub. If you want some real local produce head to St. Davids Gin and Kitchen (name gives it away). If you really want to blow the budget book yourself in to Blas restaurant at Twr y Fellin. Tom Jones and Anthony Hopkins are part of the furniture here. This area is also well know for pioneering the activity of coasteering. TYF adventure centre will keep you busy for days. Surfing, coasteering, boat trips, kayaking etc. Just be prepared to get wet and have fun. There are loads of circular walks around here with many taking in the stunning coast path. One of our favourites is to park in Caerfai beach car park and walk the coast to Porthclais harbour. You can stop in at the totally unique St. Nons mini chapel on the cliff. From there head back towards st davids for some lunch and then head back to the car. Wham bam.

Solva is a peaceful little harbour that is sheltered and catches the sun for most of the day. The Main Street has a host of little shops, cafes and galleries. Cafe Mangu does a great breakfast and also an amazing selection of welsh cakes. Do you know what a crempog is? Me neither. But it tastes amazing and you'll want more. Stroll down the harbour to the cafe on the quay at the end to watch life go by. The best time to visit the harbour is at high tide. You can jump off the harbour wall which is deep enough only at high tide. The water can be crystal clear here so swimming and paddle boarding is a must. Paddle board around to the next bay which is called St. Elvis. Great little caves around this area. Crabbing is also popular with the kids, see what you can catch. The harbour Inn is in a great location and serves good pub grub. The Cambrian at the end of the Main Street does some great fine dining. If you want a sea food platter made just for you, check out Mrs Will the fish. She's been doing this for nearly 50 years. Lobster, crabs, prawns and crevettes all freshly caught. Another hot tip...high tide, midday to late afternoon, grab a bbq and sit over in the top of the lime kilns. its shelter, its a sun trap and you've got the best view of solva life unfolding in front of you.

Nolton Haven (or heaven to the locals) is the local beach to Folkeston Farmyard. It's quite, family friendly and only just down the road. High tide, late afternoon when the bay is filled with warmth is when the place comes alive. A lot of people come here for a lovely open water swim in the safety of the protective cliffs. (watch the Rip on the right when the tide is going out) There are two little sandy dells just above the beach that are great for bbqs and you can walk up to the headland to see the sunset and whole bay in all its glory. The haven brasserie cooks up incredible food and has a beer garden overlooking the beach. To get here from the cottage you can take the walk down the valley or just head down the quite road. The pub is possibly one of the strangest pubs in the area. Faulty towers comes to the beach.

Broad Haven North is a favourite with families due to its huge sandy beach and safe bathing. On a low tide you can walk round to neighbouring village of little haven. The best place for coffee and lunch is the YHA Haven beach cafe. When the sun goes down head for Sand and Stone restaurant where you can grab a burger and cocktail or two or Sunshine Italian for Pizza.

Little Haven is a charming picture postcard village with a slow pace. You can grab a beer at the castle inn and watch the world go by or pick up a take out from Lobster and More and walk out to the Point to eat it. The Swan Inn does great beer and food and St Brides Inn is worth checking out.

A visit to Tregwynt woollen mill is a great day out. It's a working mill in a remote wooded valley on the Pembrokeshire coast. Its famed for its Celtic woven rug design and is sold the world over. You can get everything from rugs, cushions and chairs to local produce. The cafe has a great menu and is a lovely place to relax. Once you have had a look around the Mill you can head to Abermawr beach which is rough and ready. There's a lovely little circular walk that heads up Abermawr valley.

One of the oldest sea pubs in the shire. Have a pub lunch and walk it off by cruising on the coast path. A good day out is if you park at Abereiddy beach, go cliff jumping in the blue lagoon, then walk 45mins long the coast path to the sloop. Have your well earned pint and grub then stroll back all smiley and merry.

Come down at high tide of a sheltered open water swim. Check the winds as a SW wind will make the water a little choppy. Anything else and its very calm. Pop into the brasserie afterwards for some warning food x
