The Rimondi Fountain is located at the North End of Petychaki square, in the centre of the old town of Rethymnon. The current fountain stands on the site of an older fountain believed to have existed since at least 1588. The front of the Rimondi Fountain consists of 4 small columns which stand on raised basins. These basins were used as troughs for animals to drink from. The water runs from spouts that are in form of lions' heads.

The monastery is built like a fortress and the main temple is dedicated to the Holy Cross. The monastery played an important revolutionary role against the Turks, so it was twice destroyed. Till late 90s, the monastery was completely deserted and ruined, but today it has been restored and is operates normally. The buildings are located on two levels with two courtyards. The main temple is built on the south courtyard. Outside the temple stands a beautiful Venetian fountain, while the main entrance is imposing

After the Turks left, the bones were collected and placed in an ossuary which now stands in the middle of the central chamber. If you decide to visit the Caves, please wear sturdy shoes, as the ground may be slippery and we suggest you take a torch to enter the chambers.
