The Rimondi Fountain is located at the North End of Petychaki square, in the centre of the old town of Rethymnon. The monastery can be accessed by car via the village Doxaro and the rough landscape is amazing. There is a second road starting from Sisses village. The monastery is built like a fortress and the main temple is dedicated to the Holy Cross. The monastery played an important revolutionary role against the Turks, so it was twice destroyed. Till late 90s, the monastery was completely deserted and ruined, but today it has been restored and is operates normally. The buildings are located on two levels with two courtyards. The main temple is built on the south courtyard. Outside the temple stands a beautiful Venetian fountain, while the main entrance is imposing

The village of Anogia, is located 740 metres up on the north face of Mount Psiloritis and it has particularly close relationships with the mountain and its landscapes. The locals are mainly engaged in farming and are characterised by their hospitality. Also, you can enjoy your coffee in the cafes and taste the traditional Cretan dishes at local taverns. Moreover, women still weave traditional Cretan weavings of unsurpassed quality that you will find in many shops. The village has a long historical tradition as well, as its residents have participated in almost all revolutions in Crete and the village and gave refuge to the rebels, even when the Turks burnt out the village in 1822 and 1867

he beautiful monastery of Arkadi can be found in the foothills of the western Ida (Psiloritis) Mountain. The Cretans consider the monastery as a symbol of freedom from the turks. During the revolt in 1866, hundreds of refugees and Cretan freedom fighters sought sanctuary in the wine store rooms with the monks, where there was also a stash of gunpowder. When the Turks made their way towards their last refuge, the Abbot gave the order to fire the gunpowder. Hundreds of Cretans and Turks were killed; giving real meaning to the battle cry of Crete - “freedom or death”! November 8th is a day of celebrations in Arkadi and Rethymno.

In the village of Melidoni you will find the Melidoni Caves, where there is a number of very impressive stalactites and stalagmites. In 1823 the Ottoman army besieged the caves where approximately 370 inhabitants, mainly women and children, were hiding. Under the orders of Hussein Bay, the entrance was jammed with flammable materials and set on fire. After the Turks left, the bones were collected and placed in an ossuary which now stands in the middle of the central chamber. If you decide to visit the Caves, please wear sturdy shoes, as the ground may be slippery and we suggest you take a torch to enter the chambers.

Bali has four beaches, which are formed in sandy coves with nice greenish waters. The beaches are almost always calm, since the direction of Bali is western. They all are suitable for children and well organised. Moreover, water is cool because of the several springs that carry fresh water into the sea. Several tavernas can also be found at the beaches of Bali!
