Archaeology

Wiltshire abounds in sites of archeological interest, and this one is outstanding because you can walk round the stone circle among the stones, unlike Stonehenge where you have to admire them from afar. There is a museum explaining the site. You could walk from Calne, eat at the Waggon and Horses on the way there and get the bus back.

City/town information

If you have come for city sightseeing, then the city of Bath is the outstanding highlight. It is a Unesco World Heritage site, and there are simply too many features to list - the Abbey Church, the uniquely well preserved Roman Baths which gave the city its name, the shops and museums and everywhere the finest Georgian architecture in England. Naturally Bath is popular in the summer with visitors, and so excellent Park-and-Ride facilities are available. The best one we find is at Lansdowne Racecourse (about 35 mins via A420) and then 10 mins into the centre of Bath.
