Food scene

This is, hands down, the best breakfast place in northern Michigan. It's a three minute drive from the Promised Land. Usually, there is a line. It's worth the wait. If you like French toast, make sure to get it with their homemade cinnamon swirl bread!

Short's is famous throughout Michigan. If you are a craft beer person, I'm sure you've heard of the Huma Lupa Licious! Bellaire is a small town with a ton of charm. Check out the brewery, grab a bit to eat (we suggest The Something sandwich) and then explore the small town. If you like the Freedom Hill coffee that we offer, you can pick up a bag at the Bee Well Mead and Cider. The coffee is roasted locally. While you are at Bee Well, be sure to try some mead. You won't be disappointed!

If you have never been to Boyne City, it is a must see! It has small town charm surrounded by beauty. For food recommendations, we LOVE Stigg's. This is a brewery that has an extensive beer menu with the majority of their beers made in house. We recommend the hamburger with the Fuggle fries. After eating at Stiggs, check out Provisions down the street and then go get your ice cream fix at Alpine Chocolate Haus!

River Trips

Want to take a trip down the Jordan River? Head to Jordan Valley Outfitters. You can take either a three hour or two hour trip down the river. if you are a family of first timers, you might consider a raft. This is the first protected river in Michigan and is also the third fastest. We recommend you have some experience before you tackle this bad boy! One perk of going is you get to see The Promised Land from the river as you pass by!

Sightseeing

Walk to the end of Thorsen River Drive, turn left, and walk for about four tenths of a mile. On the right, you will see this preserve. It's an easy nature walk for the entire family and full of wildlife!

This is the place you'll want to go if you would like to take a swim in the South Arm. It's a nice place for kids to go swimming as it stays shallow pretty far out.

City/town information

You are only 15 miles from one of the most beautiful cities in Michigan. While in Charlevoix, take a tour of the mushroom houses (we are serious)! Take a walk or have a picnic in East Park. Be sure to book a tour for Castle Farms as well. There is so much to see and do there! You won't be disappointed!

You are 35 minutes away from Gaylord. Gaylord is known for it's Alpine design. You will definitely notice it if you head downtown. They have a small batch of breweries. We recommend eating at the Alpine Tavern. AMAZING! Also, if you are a LEGO nut, check out Alpine Brick Exchange. The owners were competitors on season 2 of LEGO Masters!

You are about an hour away from Traverse City. The traffic can get a little hectic so you'll need to be patient. If you are a gambler, check out Turtle Creek Casino. Otherwise, their downtown is fantastic! Traverse City is also known for it's wine so be sure to book a wine tour if you are a connoisseur!
