Traditional Scottish working mans pub, better known as The Diggers as the gravediggers from the Victorian cemetery across used to 'refresh' themselves here. It serves a variety of real ales and an extensive range of malt whiskeys - at a reasonable price. Decorated with pictures of, and about, the areas local football team - Heart of Midlothian FC. The pies are good too.

Holyrood Park is a short walk from Edinburgh’s Royal Mile in the heart of the city. It is a 640 acre Royal Park adjacent to Holyrood Palace. The parks highest point is Arthur's Seat, an ancient volcano, and sits 251m above sea level giving excellent view of the city; Within the park you can also visit St Anthony’s Chapel - a 15th century medieval chapel, Salisbury Crags – a series of 150 foot cliff faces dominating Edinburgh’s skyline

A 12 mile (~20km) walkway following the Edinburgh's main river all the way to The Shore. The best way to join from the apartment is to walk to Roseburn Path (under 1km from apt). Walk along the path for a further 5 minutes and you will find a sign leading you down some stairs onto the walkway. From here I recommend following the walkway towards Leith where you will find many interesting spots and beautiful scenery on the walkway. On the walkway you will pass the back entrance to the National Gallery of Modern Art. If you continue further you will go through the picturesque Dean Village and Stockbridge. There are many nice cafes and shops and from here you can get back into the city centre. If you would like to walk all the way to the end of the walkway to The Shore (another nice area) this will take you around 1.5 hours in total from the apartment. Highly recommend!!

Getting Around

Whilst it is only about a 25-30 min walk in the city centre and all the main sites you can get any bus from the stop on the opposite side of Gorgie Rd into town. The number 2 bus will take you into the old town and is probably the best one to get to the main tourist sites, pubs and restaurants ( get off at the Grassmarket ) . All the other buses will take you into Princes st which is the main shopping street in Edinburgh. If you are going Waverley train station - which is the city's main one - you should get one of these buses ( i.e. nny one but the number 2 bus) . There is a stop in slateford road (5 min walk) for no 300 lothian bus from/ to the airport.
