North - West side of the city, just South of the M5 is the Blaise Castle Estate - one of Bristol's little gems for walking trails, cycling, dog walking, wildlife, streams, cliff top walks, 'folly' as well as the estate house free museum (with toilets, quite a rare find in itself in UK); fine artwork as well as a real feel for some of Bristol's/England's history (update as of 19.9.16: opening times; 11 -4 Thurs - Suns only, unfortunately). Great for kids - as well as educational: play areas, miniature railway, safe spaces to run around in, cafe and toilets next to free car park off the Kings Weston road. Lots of little secret garden type places, the Dairy, Orangery, Walled Rose Garden (past the two stone horses) when open, update 19.9.16: currently closed, due to lack of staff ), old water mill, hunters lodge etc. If exploring, see if you can find the fairy-tale type woodcutters hut!
