If you are staying in Billingsley please also search for the Highley entrance car park which is 20 minutes closer due to the river in between. Don’t follow the signs for Alveley if you want to start in Highley
A massive reclamation project has resulted in the colliery spoil heaps to be landscaped with birch woods, open scrub, meadows & formal grassland – 40 minutes drive, near Alveley
Perfect for dog walking and exploring the river. Walk along the river from Alveley to Arley and back in 2-3 hours, stopping at the riverside cafe in Arley for some refreshment. Parking is about £4 for the day at the centre in Alveley.
EU money enabled this area to be transformed from old mining area to beautiful natural park, with great visitor centre, cafe, wonderful views over the Severn Valley and railway and various events to get involved with. Very close by.
