The Airport. A newly-lisenced pilot named John Moisant, born in Illinois to French-Canadian immigrants, crashed his homemade plane a few miles west of the city proper in 1910 after experimental and chaotic ventures around the world. Although originally named "Moisant Stock Yards" after his deadly crash, hence the airport code MSY, the airport has been known as Louis Armstrong International since 2001.
