Apollo Theatre, also known as "Apollo" Municipal Theater, is located in Ermoupolis, Syros. The emblem of the cultural development of Syros, built in 1862-1864 to plans of famous Italian architect Pietro Sampo and the design is influenced by at least four Italian standards. The operation began on April 20, 1864, with Verdi's Rigoletto.

The Apollo Municipal Theatre of Ermoupolis was built in 1864, by the French architect Chabeau. It is placed on Miaouli square, in the centre of Ermoupoulis, and constitutes a miniature replica of La Scala di Milan. It is made of white marble and limestone and has two floors. It also has many beautiful wall paintings and wooden tiers. This theatre was the first opera house in Greece. Until 1944, Italian operas were frequently presented there. Then the building was destroyed almost completely by the Germans. In 1970, there was an unsuccessful attempt to restore the theatre. Later on, another attempt had better results and today the Apollo Municipal Theatre hosts some of the most important events that take place in Ermoupolis.
