In the heart of the city, between Via della Lungara and the Janiculum Hill, find this magical place where you can stroll far from the chaos and enjoy the spectacle represented by the extraordinary variety of the plant world that is preserved here.

In the heart of Rome between Via della Lungara and the Gianicolo Hill, you can find a magical place where to walk away from the chaos of the city, and enjoy the spectacle represented by the extraordinary variety of the plant world preserved here. Among the largest in Italy, the Botanical Garden of Rome is located in the park of Villa Corsini, once the residence of Christine of Sweden, and on part of the Horti Getae, archaeological area formerly constituted by the Baths of Septimius Severus. The Botanical Garden is fully part of the tradition of gardens with an important scientific and naturalistic value, such as that of the Vatican, first example of a botanical garden.

The Botanical Garden, one of the largest in Italy, was founded in 1514 by Pope Leo X. Today it covers 12 hectares and preserves naturalistic varieties from all over the world cultivated by reconstructing their natural environments. You will find, among other things, a collection ranging from 300 ultra-old trees to the richest collection of Bamboo in Europe, 400 species of orchids and a sprawling Japanese Garden, with its cherry trees, camellias and magnolias, with evocative water features, small waterfalls and two enchanting ponds, which in April offers an incredible Hanami, the wonderful blossoming of the cherry trees in the Japanese garden. At any time of the year you will find different colours and scents but for me it is a wonderful place to escape the hustle and bustle and relax. Entrance fee.

Outside the touristic itineraries the botanical garden is a magic place located at the foot of the Gianicolo's Hill. This was the place where I took out my fiancee at our first appointment! The garden is really beautiful and romantic, a quick visit will not take more than 1 hour and half and it could be the perfect intermediate stop before visiting the Vatican city or climb to the Gianicolo hill to appreciate the panoramic view.
