National Road 7C (DN7C), nicknamed Transfăgărăşan (the prefix "trans-" + Fagaras) connects the historical region of Wallachia and Transylvania, crossing the Fagaras Mountains, the highest mountain group in Romania, part of the Carpathians. It is a paved road, reaching near Lake Balea tunnel at an altitude of 2042 m. [1] Thus, Transfăgărăşanul ranks second in the standings altitude alpine roads in Romania, after Transalpina (DN67C) dinMunţii Parang, which goes up to 2145 m.
