The regional Museum Alhondiga de Granaditas Is located in a historic monument, whose construction began in 1797 and concluded and 1809. It is a stunning work of neo-classical architecture, with a simple design, utilizing impeccable construction techniques. Granaditas or The Corn Exchange is a pivotal symbol for the battle that was fought there on September 28, 1810 and embodies the figure of Hidalgo and other heroes which eventually resulted in the sovereignty and freedom of the Mexican nation. The historical significance is expressed in the murals painted by Jose Chavez Morado in 1955.
