Toishi Castle (砥石城址) was the sight of several major battles during the samurai era. Unfortunately there are not many ruins remaining today, but this is still a great place for hiking. From the top of the mountain where the castle was originally located, you can get some great views of Ueda City, the Japan Alps, and on clear days, Mt. Fuji. The hike is not very difficult and can be enjoyed by adults and children alike.
