Glentrool Visitor Centre is under a mile from the cottages. Here you will find a lovely wee café by the river (open Easter-October) where you can sit and enjoy the view. You'll also find three circular waymarked trails for all abilities; 1.25, 2.25, or 4.5 miles. All have gorgeous views! There is an off-road footpath from Glentrool Village to the Visitor Centre, so you can leave the car behind and do any of these walks straight from your front door, adding on an extra 1.8 miles to the distances.

Glentrool has great designated walking trails and mountain biking trails ranging from easy to difficult. Bruce's stone can also be found at the starting point to the Merrick trail, if your keen enough to climb it. on a clear day the views are exceptional.

Go stargazing in Galloway Dark Sky Park and enjoy amazing views of fantastic dark skies. The region covers 300 square miles that have been protected from light pollution. On moonless nights the Milky Way can be seen stretching from one horizon to the other. Thousands more stars are visible compared to a typical town or city. On the outskirts of the park you will find the Scottish Dark Sky Observatory – a beacon of public stargazing events
