Park then walk to the right. Trails aren't marked. You can just walk along the waters edge. It's beautiful.

Spooky and beautiful, MacKenzie State Park a 13-acre recreation area perched on the jagged lava sea cliffs along the Red Road. The signature feature of the park is the largest stand of ironwood trees in the Hawaiian islands and the main attraction is experiencing the raw power of the waves along the sea cliffs. There are restrooms and a covered picnic pavilion. Camping is not advised and rogue waves are extremely dangerous so please heed the numerous danger signs. Park entrance is free but entry into lava tubes or caves is prohibited.

MacKenzie State Park is one of the only tracts of public land along scenic Hwy. 137 in the Puna District that is suitable for hiking. A smaller part of the Malama Ki Forest Reserve, this 13 acre recreation area occupies the harsh lava sea cliffs of the rough Puna coast. Hike through an ironwood forest to tidepools for dipping, picnics and dramatic waves. Stay away from the edge of the cliff, and you may discover some collapsed lava tubes in your travels.
