Hidden away in the boglands of Longford, not far from Kenagh village, is an inspiring relic of prehistory: a togher – an Iron Age road – built in 148 BC. Known locally as the Danes’ Road, it is the largest of its kind to have been uncovered in Europe.
29km. The Corlea Trackway is an Iron Age trackway or togher, near the village of Keenagh, south of Longford, County Longford. It was known locally as the Dane's Road. It was constructed from oak planks in 148–147 BC, making it contemporary with the Siege of Carthag.
One of my favourite places to visit if you’re a history nerd - no just curious about where we come from and how people spent so long building roads in our ancient past. Love love love here
