VALLE DEL COCORA One of the most important places in Quindío, is nestled between the Cordillera Central Mountains. It is located about 20 kilometers from the town of Salento. The Cocora Valley is a nature reserve. Cocora was the name of a princess daughter from the cacique indigenous people and means "water star". Omnipresent in its landscape are the Wax Palms that reach more than 60 meters and live for more than 200 years. It is the tallest plant or tree on the planet and are the only palms in the world that live in altitudes than more than 2,000 meters above mean sea level. It is the national tree of Colombia and is protected since it could be in danger of extinction.
