Koh Samui’s Mummified Monk at Wat Khunaram is an unusual sight yet it offers a unique insight into Buddhist and Thai culture. The monk Luong Pordaeng died in 1973 in a seated meditative position, and ever since his body has been on display in an upright glass case at the temple.

MONK MOMIEFIED The body of Koh Samui's most famous Mummified Monk, there are many are exhibited in Wat Khunaram in Namuang. This place very appreciated by the tourists and local houses the body of Luang Pordaeng deceased more than 20 years ago. According to his instructions, his body was placed in a glass cage specially designed for posterity. He has remained there ever since and seems never to be altered by the pangs of time.

That is arguably one of the prettiest sightseeing attractions on the island. Decorated in gold, pink and blue it is here where you will find Koh Samui’s famous shrine of the mummified monk.
